Local businesses brace for
Senate health care decisions

President Obama's new health care legislation has passed the House of Representatives, and if it gets approved by the Senate, small-business owners in Lexington will have to make some tough choices.

The bill mandates that employers provide health care coverage for part-time employees on a scale equivalent to what they pay full-time employees. Many businesses, however, particularly restaurants, do not currently offer health insurance for employees who only work part time.

And though the bill provides some reimbursement for employers implementing this new plan, that might not be enough.
