e2Campus
The use
of text messages in the event of an emergency has been in the
news a lot following the shootings at Virginia Tech. Tech
campus officials utilized e2Campus’ text messaging services to
alert students of the shootings and the loose gunman. Because
many of Virginia Tech’s students are commuters, the campus
thought text messaging would be the easiest way to reach
students traveling in the area.
According to e2Campus, over 90 percent of college students have
a cell phone. Following the massacre at Virginia Tech,
Washington & Lee University contracted with e2Campus to provide
service for their own community. Southern Virginia University
is still considering the idea.
