Mimi Elrod announces mayoral bid Councilwoman Mimi Elrod says she will run for Lexington mayor in the November election. Her announcement came after Mayor John Knapp said he would not seek reelection. His term expires on Dec. 31. City elections officials said Elrod has not yet filed to run, and no one else has announced a run for mayor. The deadline for filing for the November elections is June 10. City Council seats currently occupied by Tim Golden, Jack Paige and Rod Smith are also up for grabs. Golden, Paige and Smith have not annonced their intentions, and no other candidates have filed for their seats. Elrod was appointed to City Council in 2003 and elected to a four-year term in 2006. If she is elected mayor, the council would have to appoint someone to finish her unexpired council term.
