Obama sweeps Potomac primaries,
Huckabee attracts rural voters

Local voters chose Democratic hopeful Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. Hillary Clinton by more than two to one.

Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois handily defeated New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Tuesday. Sen. John McCain of Arizona moved closer to sealing the Republican nomination by sweeping all three primaries. That was despite a late challenge by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in Virginia. Obama and McCain won Rockbridge County and Lexington as well.

Youngsters learn survival skills through local book club

A new book club for middle schoolers makes the pages of books come to life. The Survival Book Club incorporates survival-themed books with survival skills every other Wednesday afternoon. The Rockbridge Regional Library and Boxerwood Gardens co-sponsor the club, which meets at Boxerwood.

Legislators look for revenue
to replace abusive driver fees

The widely criticized fees are headed toward repeal. State Sen. Emmett Hanger says a penny or two increase in the gas tax would help, but local residents say they're not sure they can afford it.
