Odd couple comes to
Lexington
Large crowds of theatergoers are expected at the Lenfest Center this weekend.
Students will perform in the Neil Simon comedy, "Oscar and Felix, A New Look at the Odd Couple."
The show details the ridiculous antics of two very opposite friends forced to share an apartment together. With only two minor female roles in the show, the cast is almost entirely male.
"We're all pretty good friends, so it doesn't take much acting on the stage," cast member Andrew Rothey said. "We just kind of translate what we do [backstage], all the jokes we have [backstage], and move them onto the stage."
Charles Barbour, a theater major who plays the title character of "Oscar," looks forward to his first performance on the Keller stage, the largest of Lenfest.
"We haven't had a big comedy show like this in the Keller," Barbour said. "It's a blast."
While actors like Barbour are theater majors and veterans of the W&L stage, others like his co-star Will Holliday are making their Lenfest debut.
"I think it's going to be pure enjoyment," Holliday said, "all different types of comedy thrown at your face."
Director Kimberly Jew expects that the show will be well-received by students. The comedy is about roommates and friends, something that Jew said she thinks can be universally appreciated.
"Oscar and Felix, A New Look at The Odd Couple" will run at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday on the Keller stage at Lenfest Center. Tickets are required. |
