Local man indicted in Buena Vista
on multiple sex offense charges

John Rice, 42, of Buena Vista turned himself in after being indicted on charges of having consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl. Rice is free on $10,000 bond, awaiting trial.

Victories in the Democratic Party’s Potomac primaries have propelled Illinois Sen. Barack Obama into a tight delegate race with his rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. Republican Sen. John McCain won all 60 of Virginia's delegates despite a late surge by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Icy rain couldn't keep local voters away from the polls Tuesday. Voters say that they have been paying more attention to this year's election because it is so close. Issues such as the economy and the Iraq war drew ardent supporters of the presidential candidates.

Activists join local efforts to back their candidates

Washington and Lee Senior Quiana McKenzie has spent months campaigning for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, who is from her home state of Illinois. She was glad to see her efforts pay off on Tuesday.
