Deputies still investigating
local man who shot intruder

Rockbridge County investigators have yet to file charges against a Walkers Creek man who shot an armed intruder in his home last month.

After a meeting with Sheriff’s Investigator Chris Blalock on Monday, Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert “Bucky” Joyce asked for further investigation into whether  Alan Fredrick Gould should be charged.

According to an incident report, on Jan. 30 Gould shot Ricky Lane Bowling Jr., of Greenville, with a .44 magnum after Bowling came into Gould’s home and threatened to kill the five people in the house with his 9mm.

Bowling was released from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Monday. He could be charged with breaking and entering with a weapon, but, like Gould, he has yet to be charged.

Investigator Blalock said he hopes to reach a decision regarding Gould’s charges by the end of this week. The sheriff’s office would not comment on why the confrontation happened.

Gould already faces charges in Amherst County of possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm while in the possession of a controlled substance.
