Horses at the Virginia Horse Center have not been quarantined.

An outbreak of a deadly equine virus in Northern Virginia caused the W&L riding team to temporarily postpone its winter season and the Lexington Horse Center to cancel one of its largest horse shows of the season.

The state has also canceled all public horse auctions and sales through Mar. 5 after five horses in Northern Virginia tested positive for the equine herpes virus, a highly contagious respiratory disease that
can attack the neurological system.
