Washington and Lee's Director of Public Safety Mike Young expresses concern.

A man broke into the central building of the Woods Creek Apartments and stole several items on Sunday afternoon. The stolen items include a laptop computer, a television, a CD player, and a lamp.

Campus security is looking for anyone who might be able to give a description of the suspicious stranger seen leaving the area that day. They are surprised by the fact that the burglary took place during the daylight hours, which Washington and Lee’s Director of Public Safety Mike Young says is very unusual.

In a building that requires university swipe cards for entry, many students do not lock their doors. Young says that the Honor System has given students a false sense of security. The theft victims also knew many VMI and SVU students that they said might have been able to gain access.

If you have any information that might help campus security officers locate the thief, please contact Campus Security.
