Wisdom from China: China expert and Washington Post reporter John Pomfret spoke on campus Tuesday, just hours after the stock market in Shanghai witnessed a drop of almost nine percentage points. Pomfret called the crash a regulatory measure for China’s market. He said he did not expect it to have a significant effect on China’s economy. Pomfret was expelled from China after reporting on the Tiananmen Square protest for The Associated Press. He returned later and spent several years covering the country for The Washington Post. He recently published a book, Chinese Lessons, about his experiences as a reporter and one of the first American students at Nanjing University. In addition to a public address, Pomfret spoke to students in journalism and business classes. |
