Rockbridge County Schools could face as much as $2 million in budget cuts--which might mean school closings or drastic program reductions.
One solution the school board proposed involves closing Effinger Elementary School and Rockbridge Middle School and combining them with Central Elementary and Maury River Middle School, respectively. The other proposal involves cuts to several programs, including drama and music.
Parents, community members, and school officials came together on March 1 to discuss the options.
The Lexington Finance Committee will discuss water rate increases to counter VMI and W&L's reduced usage.

New bathroom appliances and fixtures have lowered water usage at Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee, but that might result in higher water rates for Lexington residents. The Lexington Finance Committee will meet tonight to discuss solutions for the loss of revenue.
