Basic RATS Information

  • Founded by Joan Manley in 1995.

  • Rats is the only wheelchair and non-wheelchair transportation service in the Rockbridge area.

  • A private non-profit corporation, which provides an essential transportation service to the elderly and people with disabilities in the Rockbridge County area.

  • RATS transports passengers to medical and therapeutic appointments, to drugstores, workplaces, shopping and social activities.

  • RATS provides door-to-door wheelchair and non-wheelchair service on demand.

  • Rides are available to regional medical centers.

  • In the 2003-2004 fiscal year RATS provided 11,667 rides with a total operating cost of $207,967.08.

  • Those numbers have increased every year since RATS was established.
