VMI construction to shut down part of Route 11

Part of U.S. Route 11 will be closed for an entire year starting this December. The 10,000 vehicles that travel this stretch of road each day will contend with construction on both sides of the road. The closing will make room for utility work as part of Virginia Military Institute’s ongoing improvement projects. FULL STORY

Bird flu: A real threat?

With bird flu moving out of Southeast Asia to as far away as Eastern Europe, there is a concern about the disease reaching our borders. But unless the disease mutates to a form that can be passed easily among humans, health experts say there's no reason to worry.
