The turnover creates a very different board that could significantly change the county's outlook on growth. The three new supervisors -- Rusty Ford, Buster Lewis and Hunt Riegel, who campaigned on their support for controlled growth -- are considered likely to protect open spaces and farm land by pacing residential and economic growth.
Statewide, Democrats won enough state Senate seats to take back control of the chamber. In a race for the state Senate in District 24, Republican Sen. Emmett Hanger held a wide lead with more than half of the precincts reporting.![]()
Rockbridge County Sheriff Bob Day easily secured a fifth term tonight, winning almost 62 percent of the vote against Robert Clark, the deputy whom Day fired last April for running against him.
Day said tonight he never doubted that he would win. But he acknowledged that the campaign divided his department and affected morale. ![]()
