Sheriff will not run next time

Sheriff Bob Day says this term will be his last.

Rockbridge County Sheriff Bob Day says he plans to retire after his fifth term in office.

Day easily won re-election Nov. 6, beating challenger and former deputy Robert Clark with 62 percent of the vote.

The sheriff fired Clark last April after the deputy announced that he was planning to run against him in the election.

In an exclusive interview with The Rockbridge Report, Day joked that his wife would probably divorce him if he plans to run again in four years.

He also responded to controversial accusations made by his opponent during the campaign, and defended his decision to fire Clark.
