Wind howls through Lexington

Firefighters responded to a fallen tree on Henry Street Wednesday night..
(ADAM CANCRYN/The Rockbridge Report)

Sixty mile-an-hour wind gusts continued to rip through Lexington and surrounding areas Thursday. The winds, which started Wednesday evening, knocked out power to parts of downtown, including Washington Street. Officials say that at least two more outages were reported in Rockbridge County. Fallen trees, branches and debris contributed to hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service's high wind warning was to remain in effect Thursday until midnight. Strong winds were expected to last through the end of the week.
